Aerodynamics and fashion on two wheels

The magic of aerodynamics
When discussing shaved legs in cycling, many might think of massage, grooming and aerodynamics, but perhaps mostly the latter. In a world where riders push out superhuman watts, memorize the perfect racing line through every turn of the course, and fearlessly hurtle down mountains at speeds exceeding 100 km/h to claim victory on a queen stage or prestigious race, every second becomes crucial. Every stone is turned in the pursuit of perfection for both rider and equipment to increase their chances of winning. Everything is scrutinized for optimization, from the latest advancements in cycling technology, perfectly fitted riding positions on the bike, to meticulously measured diets. Every detail counts, and this is where smooth legs truly shine, as the reduced air resistance is significant. More than 80% of the total resistance a rider experiences, comes from air resistance. According to tests conducted by Specialized in wind tunnels, a rider's aerodynamic drag is reduced by 7% by shaving legs, allowing riders to achieve a time savings of up to 70 seconds over a 40-kilometer time trial. It's remarkable how something as seemingly insignificant as hair on the legs can make such a big difference.

Should we shave our legs?
But what about us amateur cyclists who only participate in amateur races or enjoy casual social rides? Should we shave our legs, or is it unnecessary? From my perspective, the answer is a resounding yes. I'm aware that opinions on this matter are divided, and some may find it unnecessary. I must admit that when I myself invested in my first bike many years ago and began exploring the world as an amateur cyclist, I was skeptical about the idea of shaving my legs. I imagined that smooth legs were primarily reserved for professional riders in the Tour de France and not for an ordinary amateur cyclist like myself.

Aesthetic, dedication, and love for the sport
As I delved deeper into the world of cycling, a growing curiosity began to take shape, and I was ready to give it a try myself. I realized that smooth legs were more than just aerodynamics, massage, and grooming. They were actually a symbol of commitment and dedication, almost akin to a secret ritual in an esoteric brotherhood. Today, it's completely natural for me to shave my legs. Whether the sun is shining or the snow is falling, it has become a regular part of my routine, and honestly, I can't imagine my legs with hair anymore. For me, it's become a fashion statement and an important part of my identity both on and off the bike. So yes, while it may seem like a small detail to some, it can have great symbolic significance for those of us who see cycling as more than just a hobby and who want to embrace the culture and lifestyle surrounding cycling and respect its traditions.
